Get In Touch With Underrated Massage Benefits

A massage is frequently given as a gift, implying that it is an extravagance that you wouldn't buy for yourself. However, while certain health benefits of massages are well known, recent studies and improving techniques show it's more of a holistic health experience than a luxury. Additionally, they are the perfect mental and physical relaxers to combat modern and stressful lifestyles. Here are just some of the benefits that can be expected alongside a soothing, professional massage.

1) Most individuals work at a desk, meaning that they sit for the majority of the day. Without constant vigilance, this often results in poor posture and back pain. A massage works to reduce this pain and even counteract the warping that the back and spine endure. Back stress can manifest itself in the shoulders, along the spine, or in the lower back, yet all of these can be addressed with different physical therapies.

2) Between work, picking up kids, heaving heavy backpacks, and other physical demands, almost every adult is familiar with areas of pain and soreness that slowly set in. These knots of pain are hard to pinpoint and are even harder to solve, especially without the consultation of a professional. A masseuse has the techniques to get deep into a muscle, relieve tightness, and realign the back. Furthermore, a massage improves circulation and blood flow, which is proven to reduce pain.

3) Studies have shown that human touch, in a friendly and safe setting, is naturally relaxing and stress reducing. With a massage, oils and soothing sounds are used to amplify this effect. It offers a break from the loud, hectic routine of work and family, which is something that everyone deserves to indulge in. This also allows time for you to focus on yourself and well-being, which helps reduce anger, depression, and anxiety.

4) Regular massage appointments result in easier births for mothers. Even after birth they help babies and mothers alike find sleep, a precious commodity for any new parent. This also applies to those who struggle to sleep due to chronic pain, stress, or other medical reasons. Additionally, the entire massage experience is a welcome mental departure for mothers who rarely get time to themselves, and whose bodies are still recovering from childbirth.

5) Athletes know the benefits as they recover from injuries. It is an important part of many rehabilitation regimes that aim to restore full feeling and ability back to a body part. Even without an injury, it is increasingly used to help prepare for rigorous sporting events and prevent injuries or muscle fatigue from initially occurring. After a game trainers use massages to keep the athlete's muscles from tightening up, and to certify a quick turnaround. Even casual athletes and joggers can use the benefits of a rub down, especially when done by a professional in a relaxing environment.

Deep Tissue Massage - Muscle Tendon & Ligament Relief

Deep Tissue Massage or myofascial release is a massage technique that focuses on releasing restrictions in the deeper layers of the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Deep tissue massage releases chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas.
Using slow strokes and deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain, deep tissue massage first warms the soft tissue before targeting deeper muscles groups.
Deep Tissue Massage - How Does it Work?
Deep tissue massage is both corrective and therapeutic. It uses two methods, direct or indirect and is effective in releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, relaxing and soothing muscles.
The direct method applies pressure to the muscle with the intention of finding resistance in the body, and maintaining the pressure until the resistance is released.
The indirect method moves in the opposite direction of the resistance.
With both techniques the amount of pressure applied is dependent on the amount of resistance.
Fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms are all used with long, slow strokes.
Because of the focus on a specific area some clients find deep tissue massage uncomfortable and it may cause some soreness during or after.
Providing the massage is carried out correctly any soreness should disappear in a day or two.
Deep tissue massage does not require great strength, nor does it need to be painful and applying pressure for the sake of it can be ineffectual if done incorrectly.
Of the two methods, direct and indirect, there are many different combinations.
Some of the more well known include:-
o Polarity Therapy
o Thai Massage
o Triggerpoint Therapy
What are the benefits of a Deep Tissue Massage?
Unlike a regular relaxation massage, deep tissue massage works effectively on the skeletal structures that lie deep within the body.
Many people seek a deep tissue massage to help in treating crippling diseases, muscle, tendon and ligament injuries.
When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue.
Through controlled manual manipulation, deep tissue massage breaks down scar tissue and crystallization, loosens muscles, releases toxins and allows blood and oxygen to circulate properly.
It is important to drink plenty of water afterwards to flush away the toxins released during massage.
The key benefits of deep tissue massage include:
o Elimination of the blocks that cause muscle tightness
o Increases circulation of blood, lymph, cerebro-spinal and interstitial fluids
o Can resolve many chronic pain patterns by releasing deeply held emotions that cause tension
o Helps improve the functioning of the internal organs and any associated symptoms or diseases
o Improves posture and mobility
o Helps to reduce tension and the automatic reflexes to stress
How effective is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage can be very effective, but one has to be realistic about how much can be achieved in one session.
Simply asking for more pressure and thinking that if the therapist pushes hard enough, all tension will be released within an hour is unrealistic.
Chronic knots and tension built up over a lifetime can only be addressed with a series of treatments.
Most therapists will offer advice on a program that includes exercise, work on your posture, relaxation techniques and a regular program of massage.
Is Deep Tissue Massage Safe for Everyone?
As with most massage treatments, deep tissue massage is not recommended for certain people.
Massage should not be done directly over bruised or inflamed skin, open wounds, tumors, areas of recent fracture, abdominal hernia, rashes or skin disease.
It should also be avoided by:
o People with cardiovascular conditions and heart disease especially in cases of thrombosis, phlebitis and oedema
o Pregnant women and people with osteoporosis should consult their doctor before considering a massage
o Immediately after surgery
o Immediately after chemotherapy or radiation, unless recommended by your doctor
Deep Tissue Massage - Choosing a Therapist
When considering a deep tissue massage, ensure you choose a therapist you feel comfortable with and one that comes from a reputable organization.
Salons, spas, health and fitness clubs typically offer deep tissue massage, or you contact a mobile spa and have a deep tissue massage in the comfort of your own home.

What Is Hot Stone Massage Therapy? | Hot Stone Massage

The benefits of hot stone massage are many. They're similar to a Swedish massage or a deep tissue massage, but you do have that additional layer of heat. Which really adds a nice element to the massage. The heat actually allows for your tissue to loosen up and be accessed on a much deeper level without too much pressure. So, you can actually receive similar to a deep tissue massage without having to add that pressure that can be a little bit painful or sometimes on the edge of pain.

There are many conditions that hot stone massage can alleviate as well. Things like sciatica, different sports injuries, increasing range of motion and you can actually work with the stones to decrease scar tissue as well. Essentially, anything that deep tissue massage can treat, hot stone massage can treat just as well. The stones are used in the same way that you would use your elbows, your forearms or your fists to give the massage, but you have that extra benefit of heat so you can get into that muscle much faster.

A lot of people do choose rather than to treat their body with hot stone massage, they choose it for the relaxation purpose. So, they'll just sort of relax, and bliss out and let the heat take them to a nice relaxing place and that's just great too.

Massage - More of a Necessity Than a Luxury

The Big Question: Is there more to massage than how incredible it feels? Does it truly bring about all the medical advantages that numerous individuals claim it does?

A background

The specialty of such therapies is that it has a long history. Proof demonstrates the Chinese utilizing it to treat various sicknesses no less than 3,000 years prior, alongside the ancient Hindus, Persians, and Egyptians.

It can be characterized as "the natural use of delicate tissue control procedures to the body, for the most part, proposed to decrease stress and weakness while enhancing circulation of blood to a great extent." The systems connected in this integrate " kneading, pressuring, stroking, shaking, contact, vibration and weight to the delicate tissues of the human body."

The kinds of prevalent therapy

Among the more 80 unique sorts of physical therapy, the most prevalent ones are Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point, and shiatsu. Swedish knead helps in adaptability. Deep tissue therapy concentrates on layers of muscle profound under the skin. Trigger point rubs concentrates profound weight on "bunches" in the muscles that cause torment and manifestations in other body parts. Shiatsu kneads concentrates on the stream of "essential vitality" or "life drive" that is also implemented in customary Chinese medication to "direct a man's spiritual, mental, and physical wellbeing and to be affected by the contradicting powers of yin and yang."

Therapy specialists hone in numerous settings, for example, private workplaces, healing centres, nursing homes, wellness offices, and patient's homes or working environments. The treatment is typically 30 to an hour long, and for a few conditions, advisors suggest a progression of arrangements. Nature of back rub treatment is quiet and tranquil, which is accomplished using faint lighting, calming music, and fragrance based treatment. Therapists additionally regularly utilize oils, ice, vapor, or machines

How far is it really beneficial?

From various perspectives, It might help the body. Such therapies can unwind muscle tissue, which might prompt diminished nerve pressure, expanded joint space, and scope of movement. This might prompt decreased torment and enhanced capacity.

Knead treatment might likewise enhance flow, which improves the oxygen conveyance and supplements to muscle cells and evacuates toxic elements. These circulatory impacts of therapy might have esteem in the treatment of some challenging conditions, for example, joint pain or edema (an extreme collection of liquid in body tissues, which might be diminished utilizing manual lymph seepage).

What is the method of reasoning behind such not insignificant rundown of advantages of back rub? The least difficult clarification is that since it is evaluated that more than 90% of malady today is anxiety related, it would bode well that back rub, which decreases stress by simplifying muscle strain, would correspond with general more prominent wellbeing.

Deep Tissue Massage vs. Swedish Massage | Deep Massage

The difference between Swedish massage and deep tissue massage, is Swedish massage is actually the base for deep tissue massage and deep tissue massage is delivered on a much deeper level. Swedish massage has some basic strokes, like effleurage and petrissage. With deep-tissue massage, you actually take those same modalities, and take them to a deeper level.

You can actually use other tools, instead of using just your hands, you can use your elbow. You can use your forearms. Things that will deliver a deeper amount of pressure, rather than just Swedish massage, which typically you would apply with your hands and your fingers. Many times when people request a Swedish massage, what they're asking for they often request a relaxation massage or something of this kind.

It's pretty much interchangeable. So Swedish massage is very relaxing. Deep tissue massage can also be very relaxing, I find if it's delivered by an expert that knows where that pain threshold is for you. Deep tissue massage, every once in a while someone will ask for deep pressure massage or harder pressure massage, or something like that, so that's what they're referring to.

10 Surprising Benefits of a Full Body Massage

An overall body massage is typically given from the head to the toe. It typically starts with the head, neck and shoulders, then moves to the arms and front legs. You are then asked to turn over; the therapist then massages the back of your legs and lastly your back for about 25 minutes.

Full body massage not only relaxes your body muscles but also the mind and spirit as well. The warm soothing ambience plays an important role, as it gives an aura of a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.

Benefits of a full body massage:

1) It releases stress and tension from the mind: A 60-minute or a 90-minute full-body massage relaxes the body totally due to which, many people drift off to sleep, providing a very powerful calming effect.

2) Releases muscle tension: The body muscles tend to get tightened for various reasons, leading to a trigger point or pain-points in the body. Over a period of time, these points indirectly spread the pain to the surrounding muscles. This massage helps release the tension around these type of trigger points or pain-points which end up relaxing the surrounding muscles too.

3) Improving Blood Circulation: It increases the circulation of blood, which allows the damaged tissues and cells to repair and recover faster.

4) Improves General Health: It helps to find relief from a few common disorders like indigestion, depression, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, infertility and lower back pain.

5) It leaves you skin glowing: With the increase in circulation of blood in the muscles, the skin lightens up, giving it a bright and healthy glow.

6) It gives a boost to your workout.

7) Reduces anxiety.

8) Relieves tension, headaches and migraines.

9) Improves posture: Some connective tissues can become chronically rigid and tight, leading to a poor body posture. Massage can help in softening the connective tissues of the body

10) Increases flexibility: It loosens up and relaxes the tightened muscle by breaking up the adhesion formed on the tendons and the ligaments around the joints.

They are beneficial for both men and women, especially, when you have had a rough and tough week and just need to unwind. Take a little time out for yourself, and get the best out of the full body massage.

Apart from the above mentioned ten benefits of a full body massage, there are much more to explore and experience for yourself.

Releasing Stress And Tension Through Deep Tissue Massage

Stress is not just a feeling or condition that can be annoying. It can be detrimental to one's health and wellbeing as well. The good news is that different forms of natural therapies can help you release and avoid the negative effects of stress.

Deep tissue massage is one of the types of natural, hands-on therapies that can alleviate the build-up of stress in the muscles. This, in turn, can prevent stress or at the very least, reduce its effects on a person's health and wellness.

Through deep tissue massage, the fibers that make up your muscles are taken apart. This is because the massage releases tension through the application of pressure and friction along the muscle so that adhesions in the connective tissues can be broken down. This process also helps restore range of movement. Deep tissue massage also flushes out toxins, breaks up scar tissue, and helps the body relax. As such, this form of massage can be both therapeutic and corrective. By concentrating on the deep layers of muscles, deep tissue massage enables the release of chronic muscle tension that can be the cause of stress.

Deep tissue massage can also make a person feel good physically - something that is highly beneficial for one's health and well-being, emotionally, mentally, and psychologically. Once the muscles are stressed, oxygen and nutrients can build up, thereby causing an inflammatory effect and an accumulation of toxins within the muscle tissue. As a result, your muscles won't function properly under these circumstances and you will start to feel sore and aching. The tension even gets to a point where it can affect your ability to cope raising stress levels ever higher. This form of massage loosens these muscles and helps increase oxygen and blood circulation. When normal function is restored, the toxins can be flushed from the body which reduces inflammation and tension.

Lastly, another fact worth knowing is that when treating stress, this type of massage has proven to be an extremely beneficial part of stress management. Systematic, rhythmical rubbing and manipulation of the muscles is one of the oldest and most effective forms or methods of pain relief. Massage can positively affect the nervous system and calm the body's natural fight or flight responses since it can reduce harmful stress hormones. Deep tissue massage also stimulates the lymphatic flow around the body which can affect tissue drainage and the immune system.

3 Facts About Deep Tissue Massage - Benefits Compared to Swedish Massage

If you have been seeking massage therapy for aches and pains, you may want to consider getting deep tissue massage. Though the Swedish-style massage can be great for minor aches and pain, and is also great for relaxation, there are times when it just isn't enough. Deep tissue massage is more about therapy and healing than relaxation, and there is a reason why it works better than the Swedish type. You should consider that the problems you are having in association with chronic pain need a more advanced approach.

You may not hear much about deep tissue massage, but it is something that is used quite often to help athletes and others who have very physical jobs. Most injuries are not just surface injuries, and it is important to get to the root of the problem for real relief. Athletes are not the only ones who can benefit however, as there are many injuries that go deeper than the surface. If you have an office job where you must sit in front of a computer all day, or if you do a lot of repetitive motions for any reason, you are also at risk for this type of problem.

3 Things You Need to Know

1. How it Works

Deep tissue massage reaches core muscles that are often not stimulated through surface massage. These muscles may be in a state of agitation. These core muscles are important for posture, and when they are not loose and working well, you are going to have all sorts of problems. If you have a backache that won't go away, and regular massage doesn't seem to do much to help you, it means that the core muscles are in need of manipulation, and that is where deep tissue massage can help. You may find relief for many types of chronic pain through this type of massage, and once you find you are feeling better, you may kick yourself for not having tried it sooner.

2. What Results Should You Expect?

A therapist using deep tissue massage will have to apply more pressure to reach the muscle well below the surface. This means there is going to be more pain when you have treatment. This pain is temporary, and is letting you know that the proper tissues are being targeted. When muscles are bunched, the act of kneading and manipulating them will hurt. This pain is temporary, and depending on the state of your health, you should see results rather quickly. It is important that you keep up with your treatment if you want to see total and complete results.

3. Where Can You Go?

You may have to look hard to find a good deep tissue massage therapist. You generally won't find someone like this in a spa that specializes in Swedish massage, but it is not unheard of either. If you can't seem to find anyone, talk to your medical doctor. They may know of somewhere you can go. Though some doctors are iffy on recommending alternative therapies, many of them respect what deep tissue massage can do for the health and well-being of their patients.

Does Deep Tissue Massage Hurt? | Deep Massage

So, to answer the question, “Does deep tissue massage hurt?” my immediate answer is, “It depends on who you’re getting the deep tissue massage from.” I wish that I could say, “No, it doesn’t always hurt, ” but that’s not always true.

So, I, I personally try to keep deep tissue massage from hurting, and I feel that most deep tissue massage experts do. And the way that we can do this is by accessing the tissue really slowly, really gently, and you get to much deeper layers if you do it that way.

There’s actually something called the “soul gel theory, ” which states that if you access the tissue very slowly, your tissue almost liquefies and you can get nice and deeply and the body doesn’t experience any pain. But if you try to go in fast and, and, access those deeper layers really quickly, your body’s going to resist just like it does with any sort of extreme pressure or, or, trauma to the area.

So, while there may be some discomfort, it’s actually really important for your massage therapist to be checking in with you and make sure that they’re asking you where your pain threshold is. And where they figure out where that threshold is where you’re sort of on the line between “hurts so good” and “hurts, ” they need to keep you right on that side of “hurts so good.”

Massage Therapy - Great for Tension Headaches!

There are not many experiences that feel better than a massage with a professional massage therapist! And because of the growing awareness of massage as a registered health care profession, more than likely you probably are already aware of some of the amazing health benefits. Some of these exceptionally helpful benefits include relief from:

  • anxiety and depression
  • back, leg and neck pain
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • edema
  • insomnia
  • athletic injury
  • asthma
  • chronic fatigue syndrome
  • fibromyalgia
  • and of course, headaches!

And if you suffer from headaches, you might agree that a massage can do wonders for this type of pain, especially when it's caused by tension. A tension headache (aka tension-type headache) is the most common type of headache, and can start in your shoulders, the back of your neck, behind your eyes, or even in other muscle groups in your body. Tension headaches can appear occasionally, or frequently - even daily. The severity of these types of headaches will vary, and is usually throbbing and present in the front, top, or sides of your head. These types of headaches are usually on both sides of your head, and do not affect your vision, balance or strength. The causes of tension headaches can be any or a variety of the following:

  • stress, depression or anxiety
  • sleep issues
  • poor posture
  • poor diet
  • vision problems
  • teeth grinding
  • overexertion

Massage therapy is excellent for treating tension headaches when they are connected to muscular issues, which most tension headaches are. The muscles usually involved with tension headaches may include your trapezius, levator scapulae, sternocleidomastoid, and scalenes (i.e. neck and shoulder muscles), or possibly your temporalis muscle (used for chewing and covering most of your temporal bone on the side of your head), or even your orbicularis oculi muscle (whose action is to close your eye, and is very easy to massage).

Massage is excellent for pain and discomfort associated with tension-type headaches. By applying professional massage techniques such as pressure, movement, and stretching, your therapist helps to relax your muscles and make you more comfortable. For tension headaches, they may need to do more deep-tissue massage, which further helps improve circulation and reduces the pain and tension in your muscles. The improved circulation helps reduce inflammation, which often occurs in muscles that are irritated and causing you pain. Massage can also help to release endorphins, the 'feel good' chemicals in your brain that lower stress levels and help you relax.

If you are experiencing frequent headaches and are concerned, see your doctor to rule out a more serious condition. Once determined that your headaches are likely to be muscle-related, seeking out the help of a registered massage therapist is the next smart step to take.

Benefits of Hot Stone Massage Therapy | Hot Stone Massage

The Warming Benefits of Hot Stone Massage Therapy

Hot stone massage therapy, which is administered via the strategic placement of smooth heated rocks at key points on the body, is a variation of traditional massage used to reduce stiffness in the muscles, ease tension and improve circulation. By placing the heated stones on these specific points - some of which include the hand, toes and back -the muscles are prepared to allow for deeper relaxation.

Your massage therapist will administer a hot rock massage, by rubbing the body with stones to create the ultimate healing and relaxing experience. Because the warm heat from the stones helps to relax the muscles, it allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure. Strategic placement of the rocks during the hot stone massage is important, as they are thought to be the energy centers of the body that returns balance to the mind and body. Deeper muscle penetration and relaxation is one of the attributes that makes the hot stone massage therapy so popular. It is also proven to improve one's circulation and flush out toxins that could be harmful to your body. If you suffer from any of the following medical ailments, hot stone massage therapy could be just what you need:

• Muscle pains and aches;
• Upper and lower back pain;
• Effects of anxiety and stress;
• Symptoms of arthritis;
• Fibromyalgia;
• Insomnia;
• Depression.

So what types of rocks are used in stone massage therapy? The river rocks used in stone massage therapy have been made smooth by the current of the river over time. Made of basalt, they are rich in iron so they retain heat. After being immersed in water, they are placed in a device that heats them to the proper temperature. The hot stone massage technique is very popular, but it is particularly so among anyone who suffers from stress-related symptoms and who are more comfortable with a massage that is administered with a lighter stroke. As mentioned before, during the process of hot stone therapy, the muscles become easier to work with as a result of the warmth being directed to them.

Some people may be turned off by the thought of hot rocks on their body. But there is no need to worry... the stones are always smooth, flat and only about the size of a large egg. The heat is not a concern either, as the hot rocks are warmed under the strictest precautions in a unit that carefully monitors the degree of warmth. And while everyone has their own comfort range, your massage therapist will always hold the stones in his hands before applying them to your body to make sure that they are not too hot.

To begin your hot rock massage session, your therapist will ask that you lie face down on the table so that he/she can place the hot stones on the key points on your back. When the muscles have been sufficiently warmed, the therapist will continue your hot rock massage by removing the rocks and using them to rub your back with just the right amount of pressure needed to provide complete relaxation. Most massage therapists like to incorporate some type of cream, oil or lotion into hot stone massage therapy to allow the stones to run smoothly over your skin. Your massage therapist will then ask that you lie on your back so that he can address the front of your body, by placing the hot stones on the palms of your hands and between your toes.

People should not engage in hot stone massage therapy if they have open wounds or rashes, are currently engaged in chemotherapy or are known to be prone to blood clots. And if you are pregnant, as with any other procedure, you should contact your personal doctor before beginning any massage program.

What Is Hot Stone Massage Therapy? | Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage therapy is the application of hot stones to the body when you are giving a massage.

Typically the stones are basalt stones, which are river rocks, and once you apply the lotion to those stones they turn a nice beautiful black ebony color. Typically the stones are heated in a hot stone warmer, which is somewhat like a crock pot, up to about one hundred and forty five degrees, the lowest temperature that they normally are is one hundred and thirty five degrees, and it depends on the area of the body that your placing the stones, how hot you want them.

On the extremities you typically want the stones a little bit cooler than, lets say, on the back or the feet you can handle a little bit more heat. Also, interestingly enough, often times fair skinned people can handle a little less heat that people with a little darker skin, or Mediterranean skin.

At the end of the day hot stone massages are a really nice relaxing way for deep tissue to be delivered into the muscles or even lighter pressure, that heat really helps you access those muscles much faster, and it's a lovely, relaxing, therapy.
