Why Summer Is the Perfect Time for a Spa Day

Summer calendars tend to fill up quickly with vacations, family gatherings, weddings, sports, and outdoor activities. While the season is exciting, it's also important to make time to recharge.

A spa visit isn't just a luxury—it's an opportunity to slow down and enjoy a little time focused on your own well-being.

Take a Break from Busy Days

Between work, travel, and social events, it's easy to forget to schedule downtime. Setting aside an hour or two for yourself can provide a welcome change of pace during an otherwise hectic season.

Refresh After Time Outdoors

Sunshine, heat, and outdoor activities can leave you feeling tired or in need of a little pampering. Many people enjoy spa treatments as a relaxing way to unwind after spending long days outside.

Celebrate Summer Milestones

Summer is filled with special occasions, including anniversaries, birthdays, bridal showers, vacations, and reunions. A spa visit can be a thoughtful way to celebrate or simply enjoy quality time with someone special.

Relaxation Is Good for the Mind

Taking intentional breaks from daily responsibilities can help you feel refreshed and ready to return to your routine with renewed energy. Even a short period of relaxation can make a busy week feel more balanced.

Make Self-Care Part of Your Summer

Summer is meant to be enjoyed, and caring for yourself is just as important as checking items off your to-do list. Whether you're planning a full spa day or a single treatment, giving yourself time to relax is always time well spent.

The benefits of daydreaming - Elizabeth Cox

Enter the mind of a bored teenager to discover what happens in the brain when we daydream and find out what purpose it serves.

--

On a daily basis, you spend between a third and half of your waking hours daydreaming. That may sound like a huge waste of time, but scientists think it must have some purpose, or humans wouldn’t have evolved to do so much of it. So, what exactly happens in the brain while you daydream? Elizabeth Cox takes a closer look at the science of daydreaming through the mind of a teenager.

Lesson by Elizabeth Cox, directed by Biljana Labović.

Give Your Skin Some Summer Love

Summer is full of sunshine, vacations, pool days, and outdoor adventures. While the season offers plenty to enjoy, it can also be a busy time for your skin. Heat, humidity, sun exposure, saltwater, and chlorine can all affect how your skin looks and feels.

Fortunately, a few simple habits can help keep your skin feeling refreshed all season long.

Stay Hydrated

One of the easiest ways to support healthy-looking skin is by drinking enough water throughout the day. Staying hydrated supports your body's normal functions and can help your skin feel more comfortable, especially during hot weather.

Don't Skip Sunscreen

Daily sunscreen is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine. Broad-spectrum sunscreen helps protect your skin from ultraviolet (UV) rays, even on cloudy days. Be sure to reapply according to the product directions, especially after swimming or sweating.

Cleanse Away Sweat and Sunscreen

Summer activities often mean more time outdoors, leading to sweat, sunscreen buildup, and environmental debris on the skin. Cleansing your face at the end of the day helps remove these impurities and prepares your skin for your evening skincare routine.

Moisturizer Still Matters

Many people think moisturizer is only for winter, but summer skin benefits from hydration too. Lightweight moisturizers can help maintain your skin's moisture balance without feeling heavy.

Treat Yourself to a Little Self-Care

Taking time for yourself is part of overall wellness. Whether it's enjoying a facial, relaxing with a massage, or simply spending a few quiet moments caring for your skin at home, self-care can leave you feeling refreshed and ready to enjoy everything summer has to offer.

Healthy skin starts with consistent care, and even small daily habits can make a noticeable difference throughout the season.

Sunburn 101: What Happens Beneath the Surface of Your Skin?

A sunburn may seem like a temporary inconvenience, but it's actually your body's response to damage caused by excessive ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

When UVB rays penetrate the outer layers of the skin, they can damage the DNA inside skin cells. In response, the body increases blood flow to the affected area, causing the redness, warmth, swelling, and tenderness commonly associated with sunburn. This inflammatory response is part of the body's effort to repair damaged tissue.

Over the next several days, damaged skin cells are shed, which is why peeling often occurs after a sunburn. While peeling is a normal part of the healing process, it also serves as a reminder that the skin has experienced injury.

Repeated sunburns can have cumulative effects over time. Research has shown that excessive UV exposure contributes to premature skin aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven pigmentation. It also increases the risk of developing skin cancer, making prevention an important part of lifelong skin health.

If you experience a mild sunburn, cooling the skin with cool (not icy) compresses or showers, applying fragrance-free moisturizers or aloe vera gel, and staying well hydrated may help improve comfort. It's also important to avoid further sun exposure while your skin heals. Severe sunburns accompanied by blistering, fever, dizziness, or signs of dehydration should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.

The best treatment for sunburn is prevention. Daily sunscreen use, protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and seeking shade during the strongest sunlight hours can help protect your skin throughout the summer. Combined with a consistent skincare routine and regular professional skin evaluations, these habits can help keep your skin healthy for years to come.

Why Your Skin Needs More Hydration During the Summer

When people think about summer skincare, sunscreen usually gets the spotlight. However, hydration is just as important. Heat, humidity, air conditioning, and increased outdoor activity can all affect your skin's moisture balance.

Your skin acts as a protective barrier, helping to keep moisture in while defending against environmental stressors. During the summer, frequent sweating, sun exposure, saltwater, and chlorinated pools can all contribute to moisture loss, leaving skin feeling dry, tight, or irritated.

Hydrated skin often appears smoother, more supple, and more radiant. Maintaining that hydration starts from the inside by drinking enough water, but topical skincare also plays an essential role. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides help attract and retain moisture while supporting the skin's natural barrier.

It's also a common misconception that oily skin doesn't need moisturizer. In reality, every skin type benefits from proper hydration. Skipping moisturizer may actually encourage some skin types to produce more oil as they attempt to compensate for dryness.

Summer is a great time to simplify your skincare routine while focusing on gentle cleansing, lightweight moisturizers, and consistent sun protection. Professional facial treatments can also replenish moisture, remove dead skin cells, and leave your skin feeling refreshed during the hottest months of the year.

Healthy, hydrated skin isn't just about appearance—it's an important part of maintaining your skin's overall function and resilience.

Summer Sun and Your Skin: What UV Rays Really Do

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, but increased sun exposure can have lasting effects on your skin. Understanding how ultraviolet (UV) rays affect your skin can help you make informed decisions that support both your health and your complexion.

The sun produces two primary types of UV radiation that reach the Earth's surface: UVA and UVB rays. While both can damage the skin, they do so in different ways. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and are associated with premature aging, including wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and dark spots. UVB rays primarily affect the outer layers of the skin and are the main cause of sunburn.

Even on cloudy days, up to 80% of UV rays can pass through cloud cover, meaning your skin may still be exposed even when the sun isn't shining brightly. UV rays can also reflect off surfaces like water, sand, and concrete, increasing overall exposure during outdoor activities.

One of the best ways to protect your skin is by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Reapplying every two hours—or more often after swimming or sweating—is just as important as the initial application. Wearing protective clothing, sunglasses, and seeking shade during peak sunlight hours can further reduce UV exposure.

Professional skincare treatments can also help address concerns that become more noticeable after summer, such as dehydration, uneven skin tone, and dullness. Supporting your skin with consistent care throughout the season can help maintain a healthy, radiant complexion long after summer ends.
