Moisturizer is an essential part of any skincare routine, but if you make certain mistakes, you could sabotage your skin. While everyone needs a moisturizer, not all moisturizers work for everyone. Look for one with ingredients that work with your skin type. For example, if you have oily skin use a lotion instead of a heavy cream and if you have sensitive skin, avoid moisturizers with fragrances. Massage Therapy - Great for Tension Headaches!

There are not many experiences that feel better than a massage with a professional massage therapist! And because of the growing awareness of massage as a registered health care profession, more than likely you probably are already aware of some of the amazing health benefits. Some of these exceptionally helpful benefits include relief from:

  • anxiety and depression
  • back, leg and neck pain
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • edema
  • insomnia
  • athletic injury
  • asthma
  • chronic fatigue syndrome
  • fibromyalgia
  • and of course, headaches!

And if you suffer from headaches, you might agree that a massage can do wonders for this type of pain, especially when it's caused by tension. A tension headache (aka tension-type headache) is the most common type of a headache and can start in your shoulders, the back of your neck, behind your eyes, or even in other muscle groups in your body. Tension headaches can appear occasionally, or frequently - even daily. The severity of these types of headaches will vary, and is usually throbbing and present in the front, top, or sides of your head. These types of headaches are usually on both sides of your head and do not affect your vision, balance or strength. The causes of tension headaches can be any or a variety of the following:

  • stress, depression or anxiety
  • sleep issues
  • poor posture
  • poor diet
  • vision problems
  • teeth grinding
  • overexertion

Massage therapy is excellent for treating tension headaches when they are connected to muscular issues, which most tension headaches are. The muscles usually involved with tension headaches may include your trapezius, levator scapulae, sternocleidomastoid, and scalenes (i.e. neck and shoulder muscles), or possibly your temporalis muscle (used for chewing and covering most of your temporal bone on the side of your head), or even your orbicularis oculi muscle (whose action is to close your eye, and is very easy to massage).

Massage is excellent for pain and discomfort associated with tension-type headaches. By applying professional massage techniques such as pressure, movement, and stretching, your therapist helps to relax your muscles and make you more comfortable. For tension headaches, they may need to do more deep-tissue massage, which further helps improve circulation and reduces the pain and tension in your muscles. The improved circulation helps reduce inflammation, which often occurs in muscles that are irritated and causing you pain. Massage can also help to release endorphins, the 'feel good' chemicals in your brain that lower stress levels and help you relax.

If you are experiencing frequent headaches and are concerned, see your doctor to rule out a more serious condition. Once determined that your headaches are likely to be muscle-related, seeking out the help of a registered massage therapist is the next smart step to take.

8 Ways to Look Better When You Wake Up | POPSUGAR Beauty Junkie

We've all had that occasional weeknight where we went a little too hard at the office happy hour or just spent an absurd amount of time on Netflix. (Don't even try to pretend like you haven't binge-watched an entire season in one sitting.) And while we're all about enhancing our social lives and embracing our inner grandma, the problem arises when you have to be somewhere the next day looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. When you need to look more awake than you feel, here are eight tips for faking a good night's sleep

Deep Tissue Massage - Muscle Tendon & Ligament Relief

Deep Tissue Massage or myofascial release is a massage technique that focuses on releasing restrictions in the deeper layers of the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Deep tissue massage releases chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas.
Using slow strokes and deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain, deep tissue massage first warms the soft tissue before targeting deeper muscles groups.
Deep Tissue Massage - How Does it Work?
Deep tissue massage is both corrective and therapeutic. It uses two methods, direct or indirect and is effective in releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, relaxing and soothing muscles.
The direct method applies pressure to the muscle with the intention of finding resistance in the body, and maintaining the pressure until the resistance is released.
The indirect method moves in the opposite direction of the resistance.
With both techniques the amount of pressure applied is dependent on the amount of resistance.
Fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms are all used with long, slow strokes.
Because of the focus on a specific area some clients find deep tissue massage uncomfortable and it may cause some soreness during or after.
Providing the massage is carried out correctly any soreness should disappear in a day or two.
Deep tissue massage does not require great strength, nor does it need to be painful and applying pressure for the sake of it can be ineffectual if done incorrectly.
Of the two methods, direct and indirect, there are many different combinations.
Some of the more well known include:-
o Polarity Therapy
o Thai Massage
o Triggerpoint Therapy
What are the benefits of a Deep Tissue Massage?
Unlike a regular relaxation massage, deep tissue massage works effectively on the skeletal structures that lie deep within the body.
Many people seek a deep tissue massage to help in treating crippling diseases, muscle, tendon and ligament injuries.
When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue.
Through controlled manual manipulation, deep tissue massage breaks down scar tissue and crystallization, loosens muscles, releases toxins and allows blood and oxygen to circulate properly.
It is important to drink plenty of water afterwards to flush away the toxins released during massage.
The key benefits of deep tissue massage include:
o Elimination of the blocks that cause muscle tightness
o Increases circulation of blood, lymph, cerebro-spinal and interstitial fluids
o Can resolve many chronic pain patterns by releasing deeply held emotions that cause tension
o Helps improve the functioning of the internal organs and any associated symptoms or diseases
o Improves posture and mobility
o Helps to reduce tension and the automatic reflexes to stress
How effective is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep tissue massage can be very effective, but one has to be realistic about how much can be achieved in one session.
Simply asking for more pressure and thinking that if the therapist pushes hard enough, all tension will be released within an hour is unrealistic.
Chronic knots and tension built up over a lifetime can only be addressed with a series of treatments.
Most therapists will offer advice on a program that includes exercise, work on your posture, relaxation techniques and a regular program of massage.
Is Deep Tissue Massage Safe for Everyone?
As with most massage treatments, deep tissue massage is not recommended for certain people.
Massage should not be done directly over bruised or inflamed skin, open wounds, tumors, areas of recent fracture, abdominal hernia, rashes or skin disease.
It should also be avoided by:
o People with cardiovascular conditions and heart disease especially in cases of thrombosis, phlebitis and oedema
o Pregnant women and people with osteoporosis should consult their doctor before considering a massage
o Immediately after surgery
o Immediately after chemotherapy or radiation, unless recommended by your doctor
Deep Tissue Massage - Choosing a Therapist
When considering a deep tissue massage, ensure you choose a therapist you feel comfortable with and one that comes from a reputable organization.
Salons, spas, health and fitness clubs typically offer deep tissue massage, or you contact a mobile spa and have a deep tissue massage in the comfort of your own home.

How An Eyebrow Change Totally Transformed These Celebs

Having good eyebrows is important to many women, but eyebrows in general - whether shaped or not - are actually a quite practical addition to your face.

Eyebrows serve two main purposes and one is pretty obvious - to help keep things out of your eyes. Eyebrows also play a significant role in communication. We all recognize a furrowed brow to indicate displeasure or raised brows to signify surprise.

Beyond just helping us demonstrate and understand emotion, eyebrows are useful for facial recognition. It's no wonder, then, that celebrities who have changed their eyebrows have also dramatically transformed their entire look. Here are some of the most noteworthy transformations to date...

What Are the Benefits of a Facial for Teenagers?

It’s a fact that most teenagers will experience clogged pores, acne and breakouts at some point during their teen years. Despite being busy with school, their social life and sports, it’s very important for them to learn the importance of good skin care.

If you have a teen or if you are a teen reading this, here are reasons why you should consider a teen facial:

What are the benefits of a teen facial?

There are many benefits of facials, but for teens in particular, facials will help clean out blackheads and clogged pores caused by oil production. Skin care products used at home can only help reduce clogged pores. It takes a professional esthetician to properly prepare and soften the skin before manual extractions can take place in a safe and effective way.

Also, facials are geared to problem solve. The level of the intensity of a facial is contingent on the severity of the skin’s issues. Teens tend to have problem skin, but what works for some might not work for others. An esthetician can offer advice on the best way to address a teen’s specific skin concerns.

Part of getting a facial is receiving a lesson from experts on how to care for the skin properly. This information includes which products will work best for each person based on his or her skin type

What age is best for a teen facial?

During the teenage years, hormones start to fluctuate which aggravates the skin and can cause breakouts. Those who produce a lot of oil and/or have weak follicular walls will experience more severe breakouts, including stubborn cystic acne. That being said, age 13 is a good time for teens to start coming in for facials. Even if problem skin isn’t yet an issue, it’s a good time to start teaching teenagers how to care for their skin.

What does a teen facial include? A teen facial at Art of Skin Care includes a thorough skin analysis to determine the teen’s skin type and needs of his or her skin. The skin is gently exfoliated using enzymes to loosen and digest away dry cells and prepare the skin for deep pore cleansing. Warm towels are also included to soften the pores, which will allow for gentle manual extractions. A customized mask appropriate for the skin type is then applied and the facial is finished with an oil-free lotion. During the facial, the ways in which diet and lifestyle can affect the skin are also discussed, as well as suggestions about how to care for the skin at home with simple, but effective routines.

How often should teens have facials? This truly depends on the skin issues of each teen. Depending on the severity of problem skin, we recommend every 2 weeks for those who have plenty of issues with acne and every 4 months for maintaining healthy, clear skin.

Reduce Stress and Tension With a Wonderful Massage

Such services help to create the right atmosphere so you can calm down and slow down. Too often, stressors are created due to taking on too much both at work and personally. Taking some time for yourself to relax and unwind is important. You should never feel guilty for the time or money spent on relaxed massage service.

Reduce the Pain

Most of us fail to realize when we suffer from pain, it is hard to make good decisions. It can affect our mood too. We can become cranky and irritable and make hasty decisions. Through relaxed massage service, you can cut or cut that pain. Before you struggle through it or turn to medications, see if this can help you.

Tension can settle around the neck and back, causing a great deal of pain. If you suffer from chronic headaches, those can also be resolved through relaxed massage service. It can be the change in your life that really makes each day better and brighter for you.

Improve your Health

Studies show when we are relaxed and get rid of tension, it offers tremendous health benefits. This includes sleeping better, lower blood pressure, and improved overall circulation. These are great benefits for your health you should strive to promote. If you work out regularly, your muscles can become sore. This type of service can help with improving flexibility.

If you often suffer from fatigue, this can help to boost your energy level. It is easier to get everything done you need to daily when you have the energy behind you to make it happen. This can change your mindset, your social calendar, and more because you don't feel sluggish all the time.

Your Needs

A professional offering relaxed massage service is going to take into consideration your own needs. Explain to them why you came in for the service, what hurts, the results you are interested, in and other details. Sharing that information can help them to customize the experience for you.

They will offer a quiet and inviting atmosphere for the procedure to take place. This can include soft music and low lighting. It can also include candles or various scents that help to appease the senses. You will be both safe and comfortable in such a setting. Push everything else from your mind and just focus on how it feels.

Rejuvenate your Mind and Body

Thanks to a relaxed massage service, you will be ready to go out there and tackle your responsibilities once again. That block of downtime can be just what you need to get things in order. It won't solve all of your problems, but it can help you get into the right frame of mind to deal with things again. Get into the habit of scheduling such services regularly.

Reducing stress helps to keep you looking younger. It is true that too much stress can increase the physical signs of aging. This includes fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Most people want to find a way to slow down the hands of time, and this is a fun way to pamper yourself at the same time!

What Is Hot Stone Massage Therapy? | Hot Stone Massage

The benefits of hot stone massage are many. They're similar to a Swedish massage or a deep tissue massage, but you do have that additional layer of heat. Which really adds a nice element to the massage. The heat actually allows for your tissue to loosen up and be accessed on a much deeper level without too much pressure. So, you can actually receive similar to a deep tissue massage without having to add that pressure that can be a little bit painful or sometimes on the edge of pain.

There are many conditions that hot stone massage can alleviate as well. Things like sciatica, different sports injuries, increasing range of motion and you can actually work with the stones to decrease scar tissue as well. Essentially, anything that deep tissue massage can treat, hot stone massage can treat just as well. The stones are used in the same way that you would use your elbows, your forearms or your fists to give the massage, but you have that extra benefit of heat so you can get into that muscle much faster.

A lot of people do choose rather than to treat their body with hot stone massage, they choose it for the relaxation purpose. So, they'll just sort of relax, and bliss out and let the heat take them to a nice relaxing place and that's just great too.

Does Deep Tissue Massage Hurt? | Deep Massage

So, to answer the question, “Does deep tissue massage hurt?” my immediate answer is, “It depends on who you’re getting the deep tissue massage from.” I wish that I could say, “No, it doesn’t always hurt, ” but that’s not always true.

So, I, I personally try to keep deep tissue massage from hurting, and I feel that most deep tissue massage experts do. And the way that we can do this is by accessing the tissue really slowly, really gently, and you get to much deeper layers if you do it that way.

There’s actually something called the “soul gel theory, ” which states that if you access the tissue very slowly, your tissue almost liquefies and you can get nice and deeply and the body doesn’t experience any pain. But if you try to go in fast and, and, access those deeper layers really quickly, your body’s going to resist just like it does with any sort of extreme pressure or, or, trauma to the area.

So, while there may be some discomfort, it’s actually really important for your massage therapist to be checking in with you and make sure that they’re asking you where your pain threshold is. And where they figure out where that threshold is where you’re sort of on the line between “hurts so good” and “hurts, ” they need to keep you right on that side of “hurts so good.”
